In a swamp lives the reclusive ogre Shrek, who keeps everyone at bay. When King Farquaad banishes all fairy tale characters to Shrek's swamp, he decides to take matters into his own hands. Reluctantly, he takes the chatty donkey, Donkey, along for the ride. Farquaad wants to marry Princess Fiona, who is trapped in a tower, and promises Shrek to return his swamp if he rescues her.
