ABOUT THIS EVENT
In the film "The Vegan Farmer", renowned photographer and documentary maker Kadir van Lohuizen follows Limburg poultry farmer Ruud Zanders. After a bankruptcy of his large-scale poultry businesses, Ruud has established a smaller, more sustainable operation.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with poultry farmer Ruud Zanders.
This innovative concept, Kipster, is gaining worldwide attention and is on the brink of international breakthrough. However, the farmer himself is increasingly questioning the necessity of raising animals for food. He is trying to minimize his own consumption of meat, dairy, and eggs. Are animals truly needed in the global food system?
Kadir van Lohuizen carefully captures the internal struggles of ideal versus reality. Is it enough to have developed the best possible chicken coop for animal welfare and circularity? Or does that merely maintain the existing system? What do activist George Monbiot and scientist Imke de Boer think of Ruud's search for answers? And where do you stand?
The film is commissioned by the Food Revolution Foundation, with support from the Barth-Misset Fund. The tour is facilitated by the province of Limburg, Triodos Foundation, and Symbio Foundation.
