ABOUT THIS EVENT
Nina Broers, a filmmaker raised in Veldhoven and Eindhoven, won a Student Academy Award for her film 'Where is My Libido?', recognized as the prestigious international film award for students. On September 21, we will screen her award-winning short film at Natlab, followed by an insightful Q&A session with Broers.
Journeying from Veldhoven and Eindhoven through Breda and Toronto back to her roots, Nina Broers has established herself as a pioneering filmmaker, being only the fourth Dutch filmmaker and the first from Brabant to receive this international accolade.
In 'Where is My Libido?', a young woman seeks to understand the challenges concerning her sexual health. The narrative unfolds as she asks two actors to reenact intimate situations from her past, leading to varied interpretations of the incidents. Who determines the meaning of a memory? What happens when boundaries, intentions, and consent are perceived differently by different individuals?
Broers crafts the film as a documentary-style making-of, yet every scene is meticulously staged. This style showcases the power dynamics both in front of and behind the camera. The film boldly examines themes of consent, masculinity, and control, leaving the audience without easy conclusions.
Created during Broers’ studies at St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda, 'Where is My Libido?' previously won the main award in the Dutch competition of Go Short in 2025, followed by a Student Academy Award in 2026 in the Alternative/Experimental category, chosen from nearly three thousand international submissions.
On September 14, during the Toronto International Film Festival, it will be revealed whether Broers has taken gold, silver, or bronze. Exactly one week later, she will be at Natlab to present her film and engage with the audience. This screening is organized in collaboration with BROET.
