ABOUT THIS EVENT
Slapstick Saturday at Natlab as part of the Silent Film Festival features Harold Lloyd’s Jazz Age romantic comedy GIRL SHY from 1924 as the main film.
Lloyd plays a young man who attempts to overcome his fear of women by writing a book titled ‘The Art of Seduction’. On his way to the publisher, he meets a girl who gradually boosts his confidence. However, when his insecurities resurface, she is at risk of marrying a villain. What follows is a dizzying chase packed with bizarre stunts to prevent that marriage.
Upon its release in 1924, this film was so popular that cinemas showed it non-stop for weeks with full houses. And how better to accompany a Jazz Age film than with a lively score performed by a large jazz ensemble featuring musicians from both the Netherlands and abroad, led by film pianist Daan van den Hurk.
Before the intermission, several short comedies featuring icons like Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy will be screened, just like every year.
A unique program full of humor, romance, and suspense for both young and old.
The Dutch Silent Film Festival (NSFF) in Eindhoven is the largest silent film festival in the Netherlands. In this primordial form of film, a story is told without words, but with emotion, expression, and music, making it truly unique.
