ABOUT THIS EVENT
Join us for the Slapstick Saturday at Natlab as part of the Dutch Silent Film Festival. This edition features Harold Lloyd’s Jazz Age romantic comedy, 'Girl Shy', from 1924. The story follows a young man who attempts to overcome his fear of women by writing a book titled 'The Art of Seduction'. On his way to the publisher, he meets a girl who helps him gain confidence. However, when his insecurities take over, she is threatened to marry a villain, leading to a breathtaking chase filled with incredible stunts to prevent that marriage.
Upon its release in 1924, this film was so popular that cinemas screened it non-stop for weeks. The experience is enhanced with a swinging live score performed by a large jazz ensemble featuring musicians from both the Netherlands and abroad, conducted by film pianist Daan van den Hurk.
Before the feature film, enjoy a selection of short comedies featuring legends like Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy. This is a unique program filled with humor, romance, and excitement for all ages. Experience the largest silent film festival in the Netherlands, where stories are told without words, but with emotion, expressions, and music. Immerse yourself in silent film and live music all weekend long. Day tickets and pass options are available.
