An enchanting journey through the Jazz Age
ABOUT THIS EVENT
A delightful film about two young women who swap lives to follow their own paths and enjoy everything the Jazz Age has to offer.
Two friends from Berlin embark on a boat journey to London, determined to adhere to the paths set by their parents. Along the way, they swap places to pursue their own dreams. Susi (Mary Parker) exchanges the stage life for a serious study, while the noble Anni (the radiant Anny Ondra) aims to shine in the spotlight and seizes her opportunity at the Tiller Girls dance school. A sparkling story filled with humor, music, dance, and romance, set against the backdrop of the Jazz Age in London and Berlin.
Saxophon-Susi is a wonderful example of Weimar comedy, featuring an international team full of Czech talent, including director Karel Lamač (who later fled to the Netherlands to escape the Nazis and directed De Spooktrein) and cameraman Otto Heller. The comedic talent of Anny Ondra shines on screen in this joyful film bursting with fun and energy.
