Explore the Hidden Truth Behind Indonesia's Colonial Past

ABOUT THIS EVENT

The documentary 'Indib Verloren... Selling a Colonial War' reveals how the Dutch government maintained the narrative of a justified war in Indonesia (1945-1949) through framing, propaganda, and political decisions. The film showcases how, under the guise of 'police actions', the politics sold this struggle to the public and why the violence on the other side during the Bersiap period was overlooked. Internationally renowned historians from Indonesia, Australia, America, and the Netherlands provide insights into this complex history. For the first time, 'Indib Verloren' places this war and its history in the international political context of the time, demonstrating how the various frames continue to resonate today. Organized in collaboration with the Pennings Foundation, featuring the photo project 'Mijn liefste Teun' from Tahn Kleijn, inspired by her grandmother's diaries during World War II, and portrait photographs of former forced laborers by Jan Banning from his renowned series 'Traces of War'.
