ABOUT THIS EVENT

Los Angeles, 2019. Rick Deckard, a former blade runner, is tasked with hunting down four escaped replicants. The closer he gets to his goal, the harder it becomes to distinguish between human and machine. In Game Changers, Twan Arts explores Blade Runner, the sci-fi classic that forever changed our perspective on the future. Set in a dark, overcrowded, and perpetually wet Los Angeles, the film follows Deckard as he encounters Rachael, a replicant who believes she is human. As the hunt progresses, the line between human and machine blurs. If memories can be fabricated and feelings are not exclusive to humans, what does it truly mean to be human? Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, which faced initial criticism upon its 1982 release, has since become one of the most influential films in the genre. Its neon-lit cityscape, blend of sci-fi and film noir, and Vangelis's haunting score continue to resonate in films, series, and games today. GAME CHANGERS is held every third Monday of the month at Natlab, featuring a screening of an iconic film classic. Before the screening, film educator Twan Arts leads a masterclass discussing why the chosen film is a true game changer.
