ABOUT THIS EVENT

In 'Wolf Children', we follow Hana, a young mother navigating the challenges of raising her two half-wolf children amidst human society and the call of nature. Directed by Mamoru Hosoda, this tender and heart-wrenching coming-of-age story explores themes of love, loss, and letting go, infused with magic from everyday life. This intimate animated classic starts softly but lingers long in the heart. When university student Hana falls in love with a mysterious young man, she discovers he is the last of his kind: a wolf who can transform into a human and vice versa. Together, they create a beautiful family, until Hana suddenly finds herself alone with their two wolf children. Yuki is headstrong and curious, while Ame is quieter and more cautious, both torn between the call of nature and human existence. Hana protects her brood at all costs, even relocating deep into the Japanese countryside. Their story touches the soul, even wolves would weep. While Yuki fears she may be telling a simple fairy tale, director Mamoru Hosoda has crafted a profoundly human and realistic film (well, outside of transforming wolves). Drawing inspiration from his own childhood and his mother, who raised him alone, Hosoda shares a tale filled with patience and a sense of the magic in everyday life. Despite its fantastical elements, 'Wolf Children' feels refreshingly authentic. Themes of love, nature, coming-of-age, grief, and the painful yet necessary art of letting go are seamlessly woven together. A rich story about mothers, children, and discovering who you want to be along the way.
