A Captivating Tale of Deception and Desire by Park Chan-wook

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Set in Japanese-occupied Korea, The Handmaiden follows pickpocket Sook-hee, who is hired as a handmaiden to the wealthy Hideko. Tasked with helping a con artist seduce Hideko and rob her of her fortune, Sook-hee finds herself entangled in a web of desire and deception. As their relationship deepens, the initial plan spirals into unexpected twists that challenge every character’s true nature and intentions. Loosely based on Sarah Waters’ novel Fingersmith, the film transports the story from Victorian England to a sensual and thrilling setting of 1930s Korea. Join us for an evocative film that explores power, love, and betrayal in the K-Wave series, showcasing the global impact of Korean cinema. The film is in Korean and Japanese with English subtitles.
