ABOUT THIS EVENT

This program is part of the Red Tulip Festival, the only annual Turkish film festival in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Eindhoven, showcasing the best of contemporary Turkish cinema. Organized by the Turkish Professionals Network Eindhoven (TPN-E), the Eindhoven edition presents the film 'Atlet.' In this gripping narrative, we enter the unforgiving world of competitive weightlifting through the eyes of a determined young woman on the brink of her first international breakthrough. Raised in poverty and fueled by discipline, she trains with defiance but soon faces a grim reality as she approaches the championship stage. The façade of elite sports crumbles, revealing a system rooted in patriarchal power, where women’s bodies are scrutinized and commodified. As she navigates the dilemmas of sport versus ethics, 'Atlet' exposes the hidden machinery of an industry demanding obedience at the cost of dignity. This raw and unflinching tale reveals the courage to reclaim one's identity amidst adversity.
