A Gripping Tale of Courage and Resistance

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Based on the memoirs of Marcelo Rubens Paiva, 'I’m Still Here' recounts the true story of the disappearance of his father, former congressman Rubens Paiva, during the Brazilian military dictatorship in the 1970s. The lives of Rubens Paiva’s wife Eunice (Fernanda Torres) and their five children change abruptly and forever after his disappearance. Eunice faces imprisonment and pressure from the regime to betray her friends and family. When she is released after 12 days, she dedicates herself to opposing the corrupt regime and fighting for the rights of countless innocent citizens and their families who disappeared. Renowned director Walter Salles (Central Station, The Motorcycle Diaries, On the Road) returns with this powerful portrait, marking his first film in 16 years set in his homeland of Brazil, where it became a box office hit. 'I’m Still Here' won the Oscar for Best International Film, with Fernanda Torres receiving the Golden Globe for Best Actress in Motion Picture - Drama.
