A gripping tale of resilience and courage amid dictatorship
ABOUT THIS EVENT
Based on the memoirs of Marcelo Rubens Paiva, 'I’m Still Here' narrates the true story of the disappearance of his father, former congressman Rubens Paiva, during Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1970s. The lives of Rubens Paiva's wife Eunice (Fernanda Torres) and their five children change abruptly and permanently after his disappearance.
Eunice is imprisoned and coerced by the regime to betray her friends and family. Upon her release after 12 days, she dedicates herself to challenging the corrupt regime and fighting for the rights of thousands of disappeared innocent citizens and their families. Director Walter Salles (Central Station, The Motorcycle Diaries, On the Road) returns as a fiction director with this powerful portrait, marking his first film in 16 years in his homeland Brazil, where the movie became a box office hit. At the Oscars, 'I’m Still Here' was awarded Best International Film, and actress Fernanda Torres won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in the Motion Picture - Drama category.
