An Intimate Exploration of Family and Dementia
OVER DIT EVENEMENT
When a concerned mother returns to London after years to care for her elderly mother with dementia, she finds herself embroiled in a conflict with her stepfather. What begins as an act of care swiftly escalates into a struggle over boundaries that are broken.
Daughter Amanda and stepfather Martin each have their own views on what is best for Leslie, but ultimately, who decides? As Amanda and Martin face increasingly difficult choices, they become further entangled in a painful conflict over intimacy, care, and autonomy. Can the best of intentions lead to unintended harm? Queen at Sea is a poignant family drama about the reality of dementia and the painful dilemmas it brings for families and loved ones. Directed by Lance Hammer, the film does not judge its characters but instead confronts viewers with complex questions that have no easy answers. It features stellar performances from Juliette Binoche, Tom Courtenay, and Anna Calder-Marshall and premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize and Best Supporting Actor Awards (shared by Anna Calder-Marshall and Tom Courtenay).
