When 71-year-old Limburg regional taxi driver Sjef learns he’s losing his beloved job, he unexpectedly takes a detour, bringing his regular passengers along for an unanticipated ride. Every morning, Sjef follows the same route through South Limburg, picking up passengers who depend on him and his rickety minibus for their appointments and fragile connection to the outside world. They give rhythm, connectedness, and meaning to his days, just as he does for them. When he’s suddenly fired and has to hand in his keys and bus, Sjef picks up his passengers one last time. At the intersection where he usually turns right, he hits the gas and drives straight ahead. What follows is an unplanned and sometimes dangerous journey, revealing how surprisingly resilient his elderly passengers can be. As industrial landscapes slowly give way to vast vistas, the group grows smaller along the way. What starts as an impulsive decision transforms into a journey that releases something in everyone, giving Sjef the courage to embark on the rest of his life.
