OVER DIT EVENEMENT

Genrelab caters to all fans of genre cinema: films that don't fit neatly within set boundaries but passionately plunge into the conventions, tropes, and archetypes of genres like horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and more. In our first edition focusing on horror, we present Dwaalspoor, a short film by Hidde de Visser and Nicholas Kaiden, followed by the dark classic The Skeleton Key. **THE SKELETON KEY (2005)** When devoted caregiver Caroline (Kate Hudson) takes a job at a remote house in rural Louisiana, she finds herself engulfed in a simmering mystery. She must care for a paralyzed man (John Hurt) who can no longer speak after a stroke. His fearsome wife (Gena Rowlands) seems to be hiding something about the cause of his stroke. Caroline begins to investigate the home's past, uncovering horrifying revelations about its former and current residents, with dark magic seemingly playing a role. Her quest for answers turns into a nightmare that turns her own mind upside down. **DWAALSPOOR (2025)** After a long workday, police officers Kim and Jeroen are dispatched to the remote property of Bert and Clarissa van Zittaert, who report unsettling noises around their home. What begins as a routine call quickly transforms into a chilling discovery that puts their beliefs to the test. **ABOUT THE CREATORS** Hidde de Visser is a Dutch writer and filmmaker with a distinct preference for genre. He writes from human emotion: his work revolves around psychology and character-driven narratives focused on what happens when feelings, fears, and conflicts remain unspoken. His films require attention and engagement, trusting that the viewer will make connections. Nicholas Kaiden, also known as Nick de Vries, is a Dutch film director, producer, screenwriter, and editor. He graduated from two film schools and has a strong affinity for the horror genre, a passion sparked at the age of eight when he saw Ju-on: The Grudge. Kaiden’s directing style often features psychological tension and visual absurdity.
