The World in Eindhoven + Q&A

In 'The World in Eindhoven', director Ellis Smulders follows three expat families as they build new lives in a city that is quickly internationalizing. What does the growth of the high-tech industry mean for newcomers and longtime residents? Over the span of several years, Smulders captures the families' quest for a sense of belonging in their new environment. After the screening, Ellis Smulders and Theo Maassen, who provides the voice-over, will engage with the audience in a Q&A session. The growth of Brainport is visible everywhere, but behind the economic figures lies another question: how do people coexist in a city that is changing rapidly? For internationals, starting a new life in Eindhoven encompasses much more than just a job or a home. It also involves language, friendships, habits, and the moment when a new place starts to feel like home. Alongside the three families, 'The World in Eindhoven' features experts, local businesses, and others who shed light on these personal narratives from a broader perspective. Why are international employees crucial for the region? What challenges does Eindhoven's swift internationalization present for its residents? Can Eindhoven transform from an international economy into an inclusive international community? This film reveals what the rapid global transformation of the region means for those at the heart of it.
