Explore the Deep Connection Between Autism and Mental Suffering with Anke van Wijk
OVER DIT EVENEMENT
Join us for an insightful afternoon exploring the profound relationship between autism and mental health struggles. This event features speakers, film screenings, and musical performances aimed at fostering dialogue about the challenges faced by individuals with autism.
The statistics are alarming: 44% of young individuals who contemplate suicide are diagnosed with autism. Although many do not desire to die, they often experience significant suffering. Author Anke van Wijk will share insights from her book 'I Really Want to Die' inspired by the diaries of Cathelijn, whose story is also captured in a short film to be screened during the event. Additionally, personal narratives from Liza, Dolinda, and David will highlight their experiences living with autism.
Given that autism is 3 to 4 times more prevalent in Eindhoven compared to the rest of the Netherlands, this discussion is particularly relevant in our community. Supported by local institutions like Philips and Natlab, we invite you to engage in this critical conversation on June 12.
