OVER DIT EVENEMENT

Join us on June 11 for a captivating film presentation by Claire Pijman, who explores the shared cultural history between the Netherlands and Indonesia. Experience how a new generation of creators brings to life this rich heritage through fashion, music, food, and film. For over 350 years, Indonesia was a colony of the Netherlands. After World War II, around 350,000 Indo-Dutch moved to their 'home country', quietly trying to rebuild their lives. The first generation blended in remarkably, while the second generation connects their parents' 'tempo doeloe' with contemporary culture. Today, the third generation seeks to reclaim and reinterpret their cultural legacy. Through Claire Pijman's eye, witness the story of a new wave of artists—from the creative fashion house Guave, led by Myrthe Groot and Romee Mulder, to DJ/photographer Sekan, who revitalizes 70s/80s Indonesian pop music. Culinary artist Vanja van der Leeden goes beyond the traditional ‘rijsttafel’, and the popular band Nusantara Beat bridges languages, styles, and generations in their music.
