NSFF | The Dumb Girl of Portici - A Classic Silent Film

Set in Spanish-occupied Naples, "The Dumb Girl of Portici" tells the tale of Fenella, a mute fisherman's daughter who faces heartbreak and ignites a revolution after being abandoned by a Spanish nobleman. Directed by pioneers Lois Weber and Phillips Smalley, this film stars the legendary ballerina Anna Pavlova, marking her only appearance in a feature film. It merges a tragic love story with breathtaking visuals, large-scale action scenes, and beautiful costumes, creating an enduring piece of cinematic history. Join us at the Nederlands Silent Film Festival (NSFF) to explore the importance of silent films and experience this piece of heritage with live musical accompaniment.
