ABOUT THIS EVENT
Set in the heart of Madrid, 'When Chueca Dies' tells the colorful story of a neighborhood where freedom and diversity clash with political division. Drag queens, lesbian couples, and refugees unite in their struggle for a safe haven amid a growing wave of intolerance. This documentary intricately weaves together personal stories of diverse residents, from trans individuals and drag queens to young married lesbians and refugees. Central to the narrative is Radio Chueca Libertaria, broadcast from the legendary Berkana Bookstore, where the decline of the neighborhood and the precarious state of the global LGBT movement are fervently discussed. Through a series of powerful scenes, characters often embody their opponents, shedding light on the multifaceted struggles within their community, as a politician proclaims a new, peaceful world order that excludes heterosexuals.
