A Captivating Historical Performance by Hotel Modern
ABOUT THIS EVENT
Hotel Modern and Abdelkader Benali join forces in "The Fall of Granada", a historical performance rich in storytelling, puppetry, shadow play, live animation, and music.
For seven hundred years, the south of Spain was part of a prosperous Moorish kingdom where Muslims, Jews, and Christians lived together. The arts flourished, and science thrived. In 1492, this came to an end when Catholic Spain conquered the last Moorish city: Granada. What followed was a prolonged process of persecution and expulsion of Muslims and Jews by the Spanish Inquisition.
This history has a chilling parallel to our current world: exclusion and oppression are normalized and even encouraged. Hotel Modern and Abdelkader Benali deliver an immersive performance that brings to life the world of Granada, showcasing its stories, dances, sorrows, and the unimaginable climax of the Fall.
About Hotel Modern
The theater group Hotel Modern creates complete miniature worlds on stage, populated by hundreds of characters. Using cameras, we capture scenes in model sets; the images are projected life-sized and accompanied by a live soundtrack. The group has previously created works such as "Camp" and "Shrimp Stories". The artistic core consists of actresses Pauline Kalker and Arlène Hoornweg, along with visual artist Herman Helle.
