ABOUT THIS EVENT

When was the last time you left a cinema with a film's music stuck in your head? It might have been a while. While we often associate film music with the iconic sounds of composers like John Williams (E.T., Harry Potter) and Ennio Morricone (Once Upon a Time in the West), contemporary soundtracks seem to have little room for melodies. This is the second session of a four-part course titled 'The Style of Film'. The style of modern film music is characterized by textures and repetitive patterns, whether you're tuning into Christopher Nolan's Batman films or intimate arthouse dramas like All of Us Strangers. What lies behind this development, and are there still catchy film melodies to discover? Join Kevin Toma as he explores this with you. Course Title: THE STYLE OF FILM How does the style of a film emerge? Film journalist Kevin Toma (de Volkskrant) unravels this in four evenings through surprising clips from classics and contemporary cinema. A playful yet profound course for anyone who loves films and wants to understand why they work. - EVENING 1: 04-11 - EVENING 3: 02-12 - EVENING 4: 16-12 ABOUT KEVIN TOMA Kevin Toma (born 1974, Sittard) studied film sciences in Nijmegen.
