A Compelling Theater Exploration by Dilan Yurdakul

ABOUT THIS EVENT

In 'The Silent Woman', Dilan Yurdakul gives voice to her grandmothers, the first generation of migrant women. This generation left their homeland, while another generation was born in the Netherlands. Dilan reflects on what she carries from these women and what she will pass on. She navigates her journey as a woman in her thirties, questioning her readiness for motherhood and her identity as a woman. Despite decades of change, the unspoken pains persist, revealing both differences and commonalities shared in a history borne in silence. Dilan dives into her family’s female lineage, amplifying the silent voices of Turkish migrant women and focusing on their love lives, desires, sorrows, and disillusionments. About Dilan Yurdakul: Dilan (1991) is an actress, writer, and theater maker. She has created solo performances like 'Through the Shadow', 'Unseen, Unheard', and 'Alter', touring this fall. Her debut novel 'Maskerziel' was released this year, and she stars in the film 'The Hunt for Meral Ö', based on the allowance affair. Starting in 2025, she will be a permanent mid-career maker with Via Rudolphi Producties. Dilan’s work is deeply informed by the tension between freedom and identity, autonomy and community, illuminating her struggles as a child of migrants.
