ABOUT THIS EVENT

This thematic afternoon will explore the intricate relationship between autism and mental suffering. We will learn to recognize these challenges and discuss ways to alleviate the associated pain. A striking statistic reveals that 44% of suicides among young people involve individuals diagnosed with autism. Despite frequent thoughts of despair, not everyone with autism wishes to end their lives; however, they often endure significant suffering that deserves open conversation. Anke van Wijk has authored the book 'I Really Want to Die' based on Cathelijn's diaries, which will be showcased in a short film during the event. Furthermore, guests Liza, Dolinda, and David will share their personal stories about living with autism. Notably, autism is diagnosed 3 to 4 times more frequently in Eindhoven compared to other parts of the Netherlands, partly due to the influences of local organizations such as Philips and Natlab. This event is a valuable opportunity to engage in dialogue about this important topic, presented in Dutch and accompanied by refreshments.
