An Engaging Performance by PLANKTON

ABOUT THIS EVENT

In a captivating duet between humanity and the environment, the 200,000-year history of our species on Earth is narrated. From the discovery of fire to the extinction of this dominant species, every aspect is covered in this tragicomic, visual performance filled with inventive theatrical tricks and unexpected turns. A humorous, confronting, and visually spectacular show, featuring live piano, suitable for everyone aged 8 and up! Set in a classic framed stage with diorama-like scenery, two actors represent the Earth; they let birds fly, waves sway, and mountains rise. The third performer – humanity – struggles to gain control in this world. However, the greater the desire for control, the more things go awry. A tree stump splits in half, a fall through the mountainous landscape drags half the set with it, and even the velvet theater curtain is not spared. What follows is an inevitable chain reaction of failure – both hilarious and touching. Following "Around the Corner Lives a Bush" and "A Mountain Runs By", this performance concludes PLANKTON's trilogy about the relationship between humans and nature. With playful humor, it brings the soloing human down from the pedestal and re-integrates them into the ensemble. ABOUT PLANKTON Collective Plankton consists of Sonja van Ojen and Hendrik Kegels, both graduates of the performance course at the Theatre Academy Maastricht (in 2019 and 2018, respectively). They share a fascination for fantasy worlds, miniatures, crafting, and the magic of the everyday. Plankton creates conceptually visual theater for all ages. Their work is imaginative, sometimes absurdist, characterized by a playful, almost naive visual language. The first two performances of this trilogy "Around the Corner Lives a Bush" were nominated for the "Grünschnabel 2024". And "A Mountain Runs By" was nominated for the BNG Theater Prize 2024.
