ABOUT THIS EVENT

Every child learns to read words in school, but we never learn to read images. In this film analysis course, 'The Language of Cinema,' film teacher Twan Arts challenges the audience to look (and listen) more closely to moving images. Through a multitude of film scenes—both classic and contemporary, familiar and obscure—he delves into the rich history of cinema. The course consists of four evenings, and while you can still join, be aware that some content was previously covered. Each evening runs from 20:00 to 22:15, with a short break at 21:00. **Session Details:** - **Tuesday, 10th March:** *Part 1 | The Fundamentals of Film Analysis & Narrative* - Explore the basics of film analysis, uncovering the tools filmmakers use to tell their stories. - **Tuesday, 17th March:** *Part 2 | Captured in Image: Mise-en-Scène and Cinematography* - Examine how setting, costuming, and lighting influence a film’s tone and themes. - **Tuesday, 31st March:** *Part 3 | The Power of Editing and Sound in Film* - Discover the art of editing and sound, learning how they shape the film's pace and emotional impact. - **Tuesday, 7th April:** *Part 4 | A Deeper Look: Film Theory and Interpretation* - Conclude the course with an in-depth look at various film theories and how they influence our understanding of cinema.
