A Provocative Journey by Theater Rotterdam: Nastaran Razawi Khorasani

ABOUT THIS EVENT

In the documentary performance HeartBeats, Nastaran Razawi Khorasani imagines the unimaginable and gives a platform to stories of individuals confronting their mortality. HeartBeats is based on conversations Nastaran has with a terminally ill peer. How does this woman—like Nastaran, a young mother of two—view life? How does she spend her days? What are her desires, and does she wish to leave something behind? Does death mark the end for her, or will she live on in another way? Nastaran says, “Now that I have children, I realize how fragile life is. My fear of death is greater than ever. How to live? In search of answers, I met her.” Together with the team behind her successful shows Songs for no one and This is not a dance, Nastaran creates a documentary, physical, and visual performance. The voice of the woman, combined with light and music, follows its own heartbeat in a constantly changing space that portrays a world beyond death. About Nastaran Razawi Khorasani With Songs for no one, Nastaran has twice received the BNG Bank Theater Prize (2020 and 2021). The performance was selected for Het TheaterFestival Vlaanderen 2022 and Theater der Welt in Frankfurt-Offenbach 2023. In 2023, Nastaran was nominated for the Gieskes-Strijbis Podium Prize. This is not a dance is nominated for the VSCD Mime/Performance Prize 2024. Nastaran's work is showcased nationally and internationally, including at the Transform Festival in Leeds, Theater Commons Tokyo, Indonesian Dance Festival in Jakarta, and the FOG Festival at the Triennale in Milan. In the coming years, Nastaran will be part of the creators' community of Theater Rotterdam.
