The Great Ricardo

The Great Ricardo tells the story of a magician named Ricardo who is expected to engage with his family during an intervention in a dreary seaside town. Instead, he chooses to abandon everything and swims into the sea, drifting away from reality: a master escapist struggling with his own escape. This performance delves into the thin line between madness and imagination, questioning how one can separate them alone. Even if you manage to stay afloat in an endless sea, how do you come to peace with a life of towering waves? The Great Ricardo blends the circus vibe of Balkan folk music with the sounds of a classical string ensemble influenced by Arabic scales. Together with composer Radek Fedyk and musicians from the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, Jasper Stoop and Simme Wouters create a musical ocean that flows, swells, and settles.
