ABOUT THIS EVENT
When something goes wrong, we often rush to ask: Who did this? Who is responsible? We quickly look for someone to blame, but this mindset usually doesn't help resolve the issue; it can even complicate matters further. Yet, we have become so accustomed to thinking in terms of cause and blame that we hardly know any other way to communicate. How can we talk about mistakes without accusing someone? How can we use language that neither harms nor ignores the issue? On Wednesday, December 3rd, journalist Pim Dikkers will engage in conversation with Marijke Spanjersberg. A psychologist with a PhD in conflict management, Marijke works as an organizational consultant in healthcare, education, and government. She authored the book 'Tussentaal,' critically examining language that focuses inward, suggesting that individuals are solely responsible for their problems. According to Marijke, this focus diminishes our vocabulary for addressing what occurs between people. During the conversation, Marijke will demonstrate how we can use language that is non-judgmental and supportive, putting relationships at the forefront, allowing space for our shared experiences, even when they are challenging. In other words, can we also let the relationship have its say?
