ABOUT THIS EVENT
The peasant girl Giselle falls in love with Albrecht. When she discovers he is actually a nobleman already betrothed to someone else, she takes her own life in despair. Her spirit joins the Wili's—vengeful spirits of women who seek to dance any man to death. Plagued by guilt, Albrecht visits Giselle's grave, where he must confront the Wili's and Giselle's spirit.
Peter Wright’s 1985 production of this quintessential romantic ballet is a classic in The Royal Ballet's repertoire. With sensitive music by Adolphe Adam and atmospheric designs by John Macfarlane, Giselle evokes earthly and supernatural worlds in a tale of love, betrayal, and redemption.
